Sydney Gaymers

Who said sequels are never as good? Our second board game event and our second time at Spectrum went off spectacularly. Some people conjured up some Magic The Gathering while others Articulated their way into victory. There were heaps of different board and card games being played and lots of new faces which was really great to see. With a bunch of tables and even a faux grass picnic setup, we all rolled the night away with chats, laughs and of course drinks.

A mix of new faces and regulars packed out Spectrum for a fun night of mingling and gaming. With tons of prizes thanks to Sony Online Entertainment, NCSoft and Valve, everyone had plenty to play for. With a Smash Brothers tournament, Majority Rules trivia and a Scavenger Hunt called “Fetch”, all the gaymers got involved and it was a really fun night of meeting new people, playing fun games and having a few cheeky Sunday drinks.

One year ago, a group of guys came together for Reddit /r/gaymers meet up at the Courthouse, Newtown on St. Patrick’s Day, which marked the start of Sydney Gaymers. from a group of 9 people to a group of now nearly 500 members, Thanks and Happy Birthday Sydney Gaymers!

What better way to get to know new people than beating them senseless? Well, digitally at least! The gaymers braved rain and heat for our highly anticipated event raffling off a full-sized replica Portal gun donated and signed by the team at Valve themselves! With an influx of new members following our group’s attendance in our first Mardi Gras Fair Day, this event was the perfect time to make new friends with our first “speed friending” game. After many calls of “change places!” and some butt-whooping in Mortal Kombat and PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale, our lucky winner walked away with a shiny new gun. It might not defy our understanding of physics, but it’s a generous prize from a supportive developer. We also gave out door prizes provided by NCSoft and ArenaNet. Thanks everyone who came and helped raise money for our participation in the 2013 Mardi Gras Parade. Here’s to a fantastic 2013!

Beer, check! BBQ?, nah we are all about breaking stereotypes! The gang had a fun mixed bag event consisting of some video games, cards, board games and of course general drinking and chatting. Thanks again to Sony Online Entertainment for the prizes! Everyone gets super hyped when those come out and there was a lot of excitement for our PORTAL GUN raffle which was announced. A nice lazy way to spend the long weekend while not in the traditional style, still had the true sense of mateship that makes this country great

The gang showed off their bods and their crafty stylings when the gaymers hit the beach! With prizes donated by Sony Online Entertainment as incentive, some awesome castles got going. From the pictures you can see, we are a terribly shy bunch and have no fun at all :p

Since the pool tables were not working, this turned more into a board game and cards meetup! Just goes to show that Gaymers can make our own fun. Dinner, drinks and damn good company

Sydney Gaymers had its biggest event yet with its fabulous End of the Year/Mayan Apocalypse Party. Members braved the end of the world to enjoy four hours of console and card gaming along with a tournament and raffle prizes generously donated by ArenaNet, NCSoft and Valve. Lucky raffle winners walked away with swag from AION, Guild Wars 2 and Portal, and members competed with one another in an exciting Super Smash Bros tournament on the Wii.
